House Facilities

Each person could make a list of the house facilities that are important to them and discuss these with the group, before looking for a house. This will avoid wasting time in the rush to find the perfect house!  Many students feel living near to a large green space (our properties are near Newbold Common) is important. Will your living be more difficult for your group of four if there is only one shower, no bath, no garden, single beds, no tumble dryer, no dish washer, limited fridge space, no bike storage, paying to park your car or no local car parking? If you are a mixed gender household, would two separate showers be of benefit to your group? It's too late once you've signed the agreement!

 

You Get What You Pay For

When choosing a house, you usually get what you pay for. Do you want to avoid renting a cheap property from an unknown landlord? What do you want in your 'perfect' 4 bed house? For example:

• Double beds with orthopaedic mattresses

• Two or three shower rooms and a bath

• Two or more toilets

• Dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine

• American fridge/freezer

• Double oven, so two people can cook different meals at the same time

• Electric ceramic hob and microwave

• Solar panels! Renewable energy! Reduced electricity bills!

• TV and USB charge points in the bedrooms and lounge

• Free, easily accessible car parking place (larger properties often charge or no local free parking)

• Bike store

• A garden that is easy to maintain. Great for BBQ!

• Many hard wired integrated smoke alarms throughout the house

• 24hr contact for gas, electricity, water and kitchen appliance emergencies

• Emergency portable electric fan heating in the house

• Intruder alarm, carbon monoxide alarm, window locks, security lighting, double glazing and a main entrance security chain
