UTILITY PACKAGES

We do not provide an all included utility package (water, gas, electricity and broadband) for a fixed monthly fee, based on a fair usage policy.

How you pay for your utility bills is up to you, however you will benefit financially by researching and using your own utility providers, because you have solar panels fitted to your house.

Assume you use 50% of the electricity generated by the solar panels and 50% is exported to a utility company. If electricity costs 40p a unit and your solar panels generate 3,000 units during a monitored period, then multiply 3,000 by 40p = £1,200. Divide £1,200 by two (assuming you use 50% of the electricity generated) and your electricity bill is reduced during this period by £600. Assume your electricity company pays you 15p for each unit of your 50% of excess energy you do not use, then 1,500 units x 15p = £225 income to you. Total savings during your monitored period in this example is £600 + £225 = £825!

A utility provider's package can look attractive, however carefully consider the following:

Loss of Solar Panel Benefits

Solar panels are unlikely to reduce your utility package provider's fee. They receive your solar panel's income and you lose out on the savings and income. See example above.

Added Service Charges

Utility packages also include in the price you pay, the provider's administration costs and often a letting agent's commission fee.

Fair Usage Policy

Under-usage is not usually re-funded. Over-usage could lead to extra charges.

Shared Financial Liability

If one tenant misses a payment, others may be charged for the shortfall.

Provider Choice & Flexibility

Your group loses the option to choose your own gas/electricity or internet provider, potentially missing out on better deals or the option to change providers during your tenancy.

Extra Fees May Apply. For Example:

Missed appointment:   £50

Late payment:             £12 per person

Early exit:                    £80 per person

Lack of Incentive to Save

A fixed fee may lead to careless usage of utilities, because there is no incentive to save money.

Cost Example (2026) of Fixed Fee for a Utility Package

Around £113 per month per tenant is about £5,000 for 4 tenants over 11 months. Using your own providers could reduce this sum, plus you save money and receive an income from solar panels!

YOUR SOLAR PANELS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY
REDUCE YOUR ELECTRICITY BILLS!
